Reviewed by BellezhoI originally started the Infinity City series as a joke with a friend. We jumped in at book two, fully expecting some silly, unserious fun and to be fair, that part actually worked. It wasn’t deep, it wasn’t groundbreaking, but it was entertaining enough for a casual read. That said, even in book two there were issues we couldn’t ignore. The FMC was painfully naïve and often acted outright stupid, while the MC was so aggressively obsessed with her that it bordered on parody. Everything about his behavior was turned up to eleven. The one genuinely enjoyable part? The friend group dynamics. That was the only thing holding it together. Book three followed the exact same formula. Some moments were funny, sure, but roughly 80% of the book was dedicated to how insanely hot the MC found the FMC. His personality, values, and loyalty to his closest friends all seemed to evaporate the moment romance entered the room. It felt shallow, repetitive, and exhausting. The final straw came with the fourth book in the series (which, tragically, was a gift from said friend). The MMC in this book had previously been one of the most relatable and grounded characters in the other books. He had even criticized his friend for losing all common sense over a woman. Naturally, in his own book, he finds his “mate” and proceeds to behave even worse, making decisions that were baffling, uncomfortable, and completely out of character. I DNFed the book. I simply couldn’t do it anymore, gift or not. I know this series has a lot of fans, but for me it was less of a romance and more of a fever dream I desperately wanted to wake up from.
