The most dangerous thing to lose is yourself How much of yourself should you change just to belong? And when does trying to please everyone around you become more dangerous than disappointing them? In Uncharmed by Lucy Jane Wood, we meet Annie – or Andromeda – a skilled witch who is far less confident in herself than she is in her magic. She tries desperately to be the best witch she can be, always seeking approval and trying to meet the expectations of those around her. In doing so, she risks losing something far more important than anyone’s approval: herself. Then she meets Maeve, a young witch who has only just discovered her magic and is still learning how to control it. As their story unfolds, we grow alongside Annie and Maeve, discovering with them what it can mean to belong, to accept yourself and to find the courage to be who you really are. Sometimes risking everything is the only way to find what truly matters. And perhaps that is the loveliest thing about Uncharmed: there is magic everywhere. The kind involving witches and spells, but also the kind we find in a family that accepts us for who we are, in unconditional love and in people who never ask us to become someone else in order to belong. And a little tip for everyone who normally can’t resist peeking at the last pages first: for once, you’re in luck! There are no spoilers waiting for you, but a playlist with the music that inspired the story and a recipe for a magical treat. ✨ 4/5 ⭐
