I expected a little more from this book, especially for the golf course itself to play a bigger role in the story. Instead, it mostly serves as the crime scene, which I found a bit disappointing. The plot felt slightly chaotic at times: Poirot disappears, turns up again, travels to London and straight back, and I occasionally had to pause and work out where we were. That said, I still enjoyed the book overall. It was engaging enough and definitely entertaining, even if Poirot doesn’t come across as quite as brilliant as he usually does. Agatha Christie herself later acknowledged that she was still developing Poirot and that her early novels have a few weaknesses.
