Rezension von Jessi.x.eveLake war für mich ein extrem fesselnder Thriller, der mich vor allem im ersten Drittel komplett in seinen Bann gezogen hat. Obwohl viele Leser den langsamen Aufbau kritisieren, fand ich gerade dieses atmosphärische Herantasten an die Geheimnisse rund um den See unglaublich gelungen. Die Stimmung, die Rätsel und die stetig wachsende Spannung haben mich richtig eingesogen. Ab etwa Kapitel fünf war ich komplett drin und konnte das Buch kaum noch weglegen. Der Schreibstil ist wie gewohnt rasant, klar und sehr zugänglich. Kurze Kapitel sorgen dafür, dass man durch die Seiten fliegt. Die düstere, leicht unheimliche Atmosphäre ist eine der größten Stärken des Buches. Casey als Protagonistin hat mir gut gefallen. Ihr Alkoholismus wird realistisch und ungeschönt dargestellt, manchmal vielleicht etwas zu häufig erwähnt, aber insgesamt glaubwürdig und wichtig für die Charakterzeichnung. Die begrenzte Anzahl an Figuren tut dem Plot gut; man rätselt automatisch mit. Besonders die Zeitsprünge zwischen “damals” und “jetzt” waren ein starkes erzählerisches Mittel, das nach und nach neue Puzzleteile freilegt. Und dann kommt der Twist. Überraschend? Ja. Gut vorbereitet? Für mich: eher nicht. Es hat sich für mich deplatziert angefühlt, weil die Geschichte zuvor komplett realistisch aufgebaut war und keinerlei Hinweise in diese Richtung gelegt wurden. Dadurch wirkte der Twist ein wenig unlogisch und riss mich aus der Stimmung heraus. Das Ende ist solide, aber durch diese Wendung weniger rund, als es hätte sein können. Fazit Ein spannender, atmosphärischer Thriller mit tollen Charakteren, starkem Aufbau und vielen cleveren falschen Fährten, aber ein Plot-Twist, der für mich nicht ganz ins Gesamtbild passte. Ohne diesen wäre Lake vermutlich ein 5-Sterne-Buch für mich geworden. Dennoch: absolut empfehlenswert für alle, die Thriller mit intensiver Atmosphäre mögen.
Rezension von NinaSpannender Thriller mit vielschichtigen Charakteren. Vor allem Casey’s emotionale Zerrissenheit und Trauer sind gelungen beschrieben, und lassen ihre Handlungen nachvollziehbar erscheinen. Leider war der »große Twist« am Ende dann eher fantasy-lastig (anders als bei anderen Büchern von Riley Sager), was mir persönlich nicht zu 100% zugesagt hat. Ich hätte mir stattdessen eine realistischere Aufklärung gewünscht, so wirkt das doch etwas zu ›leicht‹ aufgelöst. Daher nur 4 von 5 Sternen ⭐️
