Rezension von Peggy Payne Set in the late 1700s, we follow Martha Ballard, a midwife, through the winter in Maine, at the Kennebec River. Martha is called upon to examine a recent deceased body. Along the timeline, we read of her baby deliveries, a horrible assault, and more. Martha was well beyond her time in intelligence and independence. This is a great book. Rezension von Lea-Sophie“Der gefrorene Fluss” ist ein Krimi mit historischem Setting. Die Geschichte spielt im 18ten Jahrhundert in Maine und handelt von der Hebamme Martha Ballard, die durch ihre Bekanntheit in der Kleinstadt Hallowell immer mitten im Geschehen ist. Eines Tages wird dort ein toter Mann im gefrorenen Kennebec River entdeckt und Martha kennt auch diesen… Sie hält alle Ereignisse im Ort akribisch in ihrem Tagebuch fest und über genau diesen Mann hatte sie zuvor die Einzelheiten einer angeblichen Vergewaltigung festgehalten. Martha ist sich deshalb sicher, dass es sich bei dem Todesfall um einen Mord handeln muss und beginnt nachzuforschen.. Dieses Buch war einfach so atmosphärisch und ist der perfekte Read für die aktuellen Wintertage!
Rezension von VerenaHCToller historischer Roman mit einem Krimi Anteil. Am Ende empfand ich das Buch eher als ein historischer Roman über eine Hebamme im 18. Jahrhundert und wie man damals in USA gelebt hat. Der Kriminalfall ist für mich eher in den Hintergrund gerutscht. Das Nachwort der Autorin hat mich überrascht, da die Geschichte in vielen Teilen echten Gegebenheiten entspricht. Ich werde mir sicherlich die anderen Bücher der Autorin näher ansehen.
