Reviewed by Merlin2.5 ⭐️ This book took me forever to read .. more than 6 months… and frankly - it is one of the reasons I have been (maybe still am) in a reading slump for a long while now. Compared to the other installments to this series, book four felt way too drawn out and at the same time extremely convoluted. I also got the impression that some of the choices our main crew made did not align whatsoever with their established characters. I respect the writing style a lot but in this book, I couldn’t help but think that at times, the all-too flowery vocabulary felt a bit pretentious. Plus, the ending was all over the place. I get that weaving together a satisfying ending after the elaborate set up of the first three installments is an impressive achievement in of its own but I don’t know.. it was just - a lot (the overt preachiness also didn’t help). To conclude - a great series that just didn’t quite stick the landing for my taste but would recommend nonetheless. Josiah Bancroft is an incredibly skilled author who’s future works I am going to follow closely.
