Imagine a news warning flashing across your screen on a hot summer day informing you that an emergency is afoot. Would you know what to do? Do you know how to survive a hurricane? A tornado? Wildfire? Flooding? Fallout? Economic collapse? I have been through two of these emergencies (flooding and tornado) and quite honestly I was NOT prepared in the slightest. The flooding was by far the most stressful situation I have ever faced because it happened so quickly and the damage was catastrophic. We ended up losing our house because we could not keep up after the damage. I think back and wonder, would the situation be different if I was prepared? After reading The Emergency Playbook by Amy Edelman, I can admit that I was definitely not prepared; I'm not prepared for any disaster that can strike. Edelman emphasizes that the disasters you see in movies are not realistic and won't be seen to that extent but we should be prepared for the things that can happen. Her guidebook was interesting and guided you through different disasters as well as food gathering, shelter, finding water, and different communication methods. It is a great book to have on hand when disaster strikes. She also emphasized how you don't need to stock up on supplies in a panic. It is better to think rational than irrational. I really appreciated how she said that during emergency situations people do not usually become violent because we have a natural instinct to help when needed. People have a tendency to come together rather than drift apart (there are exceptions). I loved this book and thought it was extremely informative. I am tempted to buy it just to have it on hand when an emergency strikes. As my favorite YouTuber says ,"don't be scared be prepared." It is not a long read so definitely take the time to prepare yourself. I loved how easy this book was to read and it really did take you step by step through it all. We won't be facing zombies any time soon but the Earth is warming and that can cause serious problems. I give this book 5 stars. #climatechange #books #readingrecommendation #sorrymyscheduleisbooked #disasterprep
