The Confidence of Wildflowers

von Micalea Smeltzer

Format:Softcover

My future is a big ‘what if’ at the moment and I’m fine with that. For the most part. When Thayer Holmes moves in next door, the grumpy landscaper both fascinates and amuses me.When he asks me to nanny his kid, it’s a great way to make some extra money. It’s impossible not to fall in love with Thayer and his adorable son. There’s a big problem though.I’m eighteen. He’s thirty-one. Falling for someone almost fifteen years older than me wasn’t part of my plans, but sometimes things happen when you least expect them.

📖 The Confidence Of Wildflowers by Micaela Smeltzer ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 4,5 stars Before picking up this book, I highly recommend checking the trigger warnings. The Confidence of Wildflowers deals with some incredibly heavy topics, including sexual abuse, domestic abuse, grief, and trauma. While these themes are handled with care, they can be difficult to read, so please make sure you’re comfortable with them before diving in. I came across this book on Kindle Unlimited and decided to give it a chance, even though age-gap romances usually aren’t my thing. To my surprise, this one completely won me over. The story follows eighteen-year-old Salem, who unexpectedly finds herself drawn to her grumpy new neighbor, Thayer, a thirty-one-year-old single father. What starts as a friendship after she begins looking after his adorable son slowly develops into a beautiful slow-burn romance filled with tension, heartfelt moments, and plenty of witty banter. Salem was the perfect sunshine to Thayer’s grumpy personality, and I absolutely loved watching their relationship grow naturally over time. Their chemistry felt genuine, and I couldn’t get enough of their interactions. Despite the heavy themes introduced early in the story, I found myself completely invested in these characters and their journey. What I wasn’t prepared for, however, was the final 20% of the book. It absolutely shattered me. I was in tears, and I genuinely didn’t see it coming. The emotional impact hit so much harder than I expected, which is why I can’t stress enough how important it is to pay attention to the trigger warnings. This isn’t just a sweet romance, it carries a lot of emotional weight. Thankfully, I already have the second book waiting on my Kindle because after that ending, there was no way I wasn’t continuing the series.

God. This book had me smiling like an idiot, trying not to laugh and then bloody just ripped my heart out. Age gap is my weakness. Banter is my weakness. Book 2 here I come in hopes of repairing the broken heart I got.
