The Throne of Glass Prequel Novellas by Sarah J. Maas Celaena Sardothien is her kingdom's most feared assassin. Though she works for the powerful Assassin's Guild and its scheming master, Arobynn Hamel, she yields to no one and trusts only her fellow killer-for-hire, Sam. But when Arobynn dispatches her on missions that take her from remote islands to hostile deserts, Celaena finds herself acting independently of his wishes and questioning her own allegiance. If she hopes to escape Arobynn's clutches, Celaena will have to put her faith in her wits and her blade ... knowing that if she fails, she'll lose not just a chance at freedom but her life. (From here on tere are spoilers in the review) The book consists of more or less several short stories that give the reader a glimpse into Celaena's previous life. I really enjoyed seeing who the character was when she was young. However, the ending is very tragic. Celaena is sixteen years old and has been through so much that it always makes one dizzy. Other girls at her age worry about their looks, their crushes and like to spread rumors to put themselves in the spotlight. But Celaena is a trained assassin and kills people for money. She's the best in a famous and well-known guild. I kept asking myself what actually happened to her to make her choose such a path? Who is she really? Where does she come from? I'm also not surprised that she has to disguise herself with the mask and cloaks, because who would expect to be murdered by a teenager? No one would want to work with her if they knew how young she was. But sometimes I was so annoyed with her because she just doesn't listen when you try to tell her something. It would have saved her a problem or two. I was sorry that she had opened up in the desert and thought she had found a friend, because she seemed very lonely. But she had let herself be deceived and lost confidence in herself. Sam was one of my favorites. He immediately chose her and her plan to save the slaves without thinking. Just to protect her and help her. He probably would have left with her on the spot too if she had asked him to. They want to protect the people and free the slaves knowing there would be consequences. You also realize that Sam means more to her than she thinks. But how could it be otherwise, the young woman's only friend and first love was also taken from her. I disliked Arobynn Hamel from the start and didn't trust him for a moment. His charisma and his behavior were manipulative and I could tell that he was only acting for his own favor. I was particularly worried that he was so obsessed with Celaena, because she could easily be his daughter. I wasn't always quite sure how to interpret his feelings, but somehow it was clear that he saw her as more than just a daughter. Maybe even a potential partner? Which was a bit disgusting because he was much older and more or less raised her... He's a liar and will say anything to get the jobs done. Besides, he beat the hell out of her himself. And then he sent her to the desert to get her out of town. He plays with Sam and Celaena and has fun doing it. He keeps pulling her into his web only to end up being behind Sam's murder and responsible for Celaena being captured and sent to Endovier. I hope she finds out eventually and makes him pay for everything he did to her. I liked the book, but sometimes the chapters were too long. That's why I often put the book down and didn't read any more. Before I read the last 5 chapters, I hadn't touched the book for 2 months. Somehow I lacked the desire and motivation to continue reading it. The book was really good but somehow I still didn't quite feel it. But now I've finished it. Finally.
