Rezension von Hamide Kahraman Somebody to Hold concludes the Northern Hearts duology. The focus of the narrative pivots from Emil and Freya, the main characters of the first book, to Lene, Emil’s sister, and Fin. Lene is in a tough patch in her life, facing a plethora of conflicting emotions. She is angry at Hendrik and struggles to come to terms with his death. At the same time, she feels betrayed by Emil and is furious at him for being in a relationship with Freya, who is none other than Hendrik’s girlfriend. Lene cannot forgive them for disrespecting Hendrik and his death in such a way. Whenever the opportunity presents itself, she takes to her heels and seeks refuge in her job. There, she meets a mysterious stranger who seems to be struggling with his own demons. The two get to know each other and the reader gets the privilege of having front row seats as a touching love story unfolds. Although I had some reservations in the beginning and did not think it possible to become friends with Lene, I enjoyed her story more than Emil’s. The more I read from Lene’s perspective, the better I understood her and her motivations. I suppose the profound character development both Lene and Fin undergo had a major impact on my assessment. Rebekka Weiler has a beautiful writing style. Her narrative takes on a poetic character every so often. I gave up counting the times I sat there crying my eyes out. Maybe I am not the perfect benchmark - being a rather emotional person, but the author’s writing does something with you. However, I have one complaint to make: Ms Weiler, it is unacceptable to drop a bombshell like that - you know what I am referring to (hint: last day at camp) - only to later say “gotcha”. Ending a chapter like that compelled me to continue reading and I felt utterly misled when the “mysterious statement” was deciphered at last. I am not sure if I can ever get over it.
Rezension von evys_liebste_leseeckeEs ist so eine schöne und traurige und hoffnungsvolle Geschichte 😢❤️ und sie wird auf eine wunderschön einfühlsame und sanfte Art und Weise erzählt. Auch wenn ich ganz viele Taschentücher gebraucht habe und vor lauter Tränen die Wörter nicht mehr lesen konnte - ich kann das Buch nur empfehlen 💕
