Rezension von EleaAfter a traumatic event at school, teenage sisters July and September move with their mother to a remote, crumbling house on the coast. As their intense bond starts to unravel, strange things begin to happen - blurring the lines between memory, grief, and identity. TW: Grief, Death, mental health struggles, self-harm, gaslighting Sisters by Daisy Johnson is less of a story and more of a mood. The writing (at least in the German translation) is absolutely stunning. I went in already spoiled, so I knew something wasn’t quite right with the sisters, but I didn’t expect it to unravel the way it did. If you try to make too much sense of it, you might get frustrated. You kind of have to stop trying to understand and just vibe with it. I do wish we’d gotten more of the mother’s pov. There was clearly so much going on under the surface that only got hinted at. All in all, I enjoyed the reading experience a lot. If you like your fiction unsettling, poetic, and just a little unhinged, this one’s worth picking up.
