Rezension von JenayA lot more disjointed than any of Charlotte Bronte's other work. Still a beautiful read and many passages beyond the capability of any author today. Shirley is in part a history, a moral tale, a romance, a class envy cause and effect study, a religious leader and church debate, the heart and nature of woman in its varied forms is detailed, and most brethtakingly a view of landscape and nature in its relation to God and humans. This seems a true look into the mind of Charlotte Bronte, not a polished version of one of her daydreams. That said, Jane Eyre is one of the best books of all time so I am not naysaying polished daydreams.
