Powerless
von Roberts Lauren
She is the very thing he’s spent his whole life hunting. He is the very thing she’s spent her whole life pretending to be.Only the extraordinary belong in the kingdom of Ilya—the exceptional, the empowered, the Elites. The powers these Elites have possessed for decades were graciously gifted to them by the Plague, though not all were fortunate enough to both survive the sickness and reap the reward. Those born Ordinary are just that—ordinary. And when the king decreed that all Ordinaries be banished in order to preserve his Elite society, lacking an ability suddenly became a crime—making Paedyn Gray a felon by fate and a thief by necessity.Surviving in the slums as an Ordinary is no simple task, and Paedyn knows this better than most. Having been trained by her father to be overly observant since she was a child, Paedyn poses as a Psychic in the crowded city, blending in with the Elites as best she can in order to stay alive and out of trouble. Easier said than done. When Paeydn unsuspectingly saves one of Ilyas princes, she finds herself thrown into the Purging Trials. The brutal competition exists to showcase the Elites’ powers—the very thing Paedyn lacks. If the Trials and the opponents within them don’t kill her, the prince she’s fighting feelings for certainly will if he discovers what she is—completely Ordinary.

Did I read the same book as everyone else?! Seriously, I'm starting to wonder if I might be the problem, but this novel was lacking everything I love in a good fantasy. I mean where was my slowburn? Kai and Paedyn were immediately all over each other. Where was my enemies to lovers? To me this was just strangers to two people lusting after each other. where were my lovable side characters? We only get to know about those like one sentence every 20 pages, because Kai and Pae love to hear their own voices so much. I don't even know what positive to say. I suppose the end wasn't that terrible, but everything else I just didn't find logical. And am I the only one who thinks this book has major pacing issues? Because some conflicts got solved way too quick, but other parts of the book I almost fell asleep. For beginners in the fantasy Genre this book might be enjoyable, but please, if you want to read an original Story read "Red Queen" or "The hungergames". This is just a knockoff. And to end this Review I'll give another unpopular opinion: I think Kai Azer is an annoying Manchild for most of the book and I don't care what anyone says about his dysfunctional relationship to his father.
I am doomed. I could‘t put this book down and I’ll probably not do it with the next ones either. I didn’t expected much going into this one but now I am deeply in love with this world and those characters
