von Mia Sheridan
Crystal learned long ago that love brings only pain. Then Gabriel Dalton walks into her life. Despite the terrible darkness of his past, there's an undeniable goodness to him. Crystal and Gabriel never imagined that the world, which had stolen everything from them, would bring them a deep love like this. Except fate will only take them so far, and now the choice is theirs: Harden their hearts once again or find the courage to shed their painful pasts. -- From back cover.

2.25 stars This a story about two broken people trying to get better. In the first half of the book, I thought I was gonna give 5 stars. But then it all went wrong. First of all, it was insta love, and that's wrong in itself. Gabriel had a panic attack when Ellie first touched his hand. Touched his hand!! And there is nothing wrong with that, but then suddenly, it's like a miracle happened because now he's hugging her and kissing her. And at some point, you just feel how the author wants to write smut. It becomes so obvious that it feels wrong. But that's not the worst part. Because then he is shaving her legs (I don't know why he thought that was romantic), and she starts moaning... MOANING. So, of course, at the end of the day, they have sex. Oh no, wait, I forgot she first touched his feet because apparently that's romantic. ... It's not. Now we're going towards the ending, and everything comes into place. Ellie goes to find herself wanting Gabriel to be happy. She gets a job and fucking 5000 dollars from an old lady that died probably more than 15 years ago... wow. Dominic apologizes, and he's also getting love (thankfully not from ellie). I dont know how, but then Gabriel saves Wyatt (little kid in basement) because he heard somebody else laugh. Or cough. I don't remember. But either way, it's ridiculous. Ellie starts nursing school, which is great. And then she goes home to Gabriel because she got herself together and is now ready for him. Instead of talking about everything that happened, they fuck. ??? Why? Why do some authors need to kill the mood with smut. (Just my opinion) Overall, I guess okay in some weird way, I did feel sad at some points in the story, but I didn't shed a single tear.
them <3 oh god it was so beautiful
