Oscar, a teenage boy in a boarding school goes off on an adventure . He meets Marina, a young girl his age and they go try to solve a mystery of a woman who visits an unmarked grave. The two embark on a journey and uncover a past, a piece of history. <b>SETTING & CHARACTERS</b> Set in the 1980s, it still felt like I was reading a piece set even older than it was intended. It felt somewhat detached from the world outside the walls of Marina’s Home and boarding school. But it does show the lack of Oscar’s parents due to work. Oscar is a boy at the age of curiosity and rebellion. Oscar lacks that familial authority or presence in his life. Looking for something more to his life, he goes out finding something that would make his life more meaningful. In which he finds in Marina and her father. Though Oscar lacks the love and affection from others, he willingly shows his own form of love language towards Marina and her father. Marina is vibrant and full of life. She and her father welcome Oscar into their home as family. The two teens form a special bond and adventure. Whilst her exterior is a stark contrast to her inner struggles. While we may see Oscar as the protagonist, the ending shifts the focal to Marina as the main character of our story. <b>THEME</b> The overall theme of Marina focuses on our attachment with our loved ones and death. It talks of the great lengths people try to play God and control lives. It shows how people try absurd ways they can cheat death.
