I love Sebastian and Maya but the plot was boring. The yearning was on point though 😛🙈
I have been reading this series since it started and was really excited for this book, but I have to admit I was a little disappointed. First I wanna start off with something positive. I really like both Maya and Sebastian as characters, the cameos of other characters are always nice and I enjoyed the rivals-to-lovers dynamic (I don’t think it‘s enemies to lovers) Now for some more harsh words. The entire foundation of Maya and Sebastian’s romance felt rooted in societal pressure, misogyny and outdated values rather than genuine emotional development. Sebastian has loved Maya for a long time which plays a huge part in them starting to date, but Maya actually isn‘t very set on dating or marrying before her mother straight out tells her that she is basically worth nothing if she is not married. Chapter 14: „Do you think this is funny? You are well beyond the age for marriage. You are my oldest daughter, yet you‘re the only one without prospects.“ Maya is in her thirties, has a great job and good friends, yet her mother tells her that she has no prospects because she is not married. As if her entire worth is tied to marriage. Her mother btw. is setting her up to go on dates very frequently because she can‘t stand the thought of her daughter being single. Maya, even though old enough to think for herself and thinking herself that she doesn‘t need it, goes on all these dates with these horrible men to please her mother. Eventually she tells her ADULT daughter that if she is not engaged by next year, she will arrange a marrige. This isn’t romantic, it’s condescending. Now the rest of the love story is under the pressure of Maya finding a partner worth her love and worth marrying before her mother will marry her off. This made it feel less like Maya was genuinely looking for love (which i do support, but not when put upon a person because their not worth something without being married and having children) and more like she was trying to escape the pressure her mother was putting on her. Also two other things in short: 1) her sister was incredibly selfish for wanting to expose her relationship to their parents when it wasn’t her buisness 2) the fight between the dad‘s was so ridiculous and childish it made me question if they are actually grown ups Didn‘t want to be so negative but someone had to say it
The expectation I have for men are getting higher and higher with every book I‘m reading.
i love anas books so much, i dont know what it is but i just cant seem to be able to put the book down once i started it. i like the plot and even tho it was a bit predictable (probably because ive read all ana huang books) i love it anyways. i like the character development of Maya and also Sebastian.
Ich mochte Maya und Sebastian total gerne. Die Story ist kurzweilig und für das was es sein soll gut ☺️
