Reviewed by JuliaEin Buch wie ein Weihnachtskalender und hinter jedem der Türchen versteckt sich eine melancholische Kurzgeschichte aus dem Leben der jungen Protagonistin und ihrer Nachbar*innen aus der Mango Street. Cisneros‘ Stil fand ich teilweise angenehm poetisch ohne zu dick aufzutragen. Viele der Geschichten gehen in wenigen Zeilen unter die Haut und öffnen das Fenster einen Spalt breit, damit man in ein anderes Leben hineinschauen kann. Manchmal sind sie profund, manchmal banal, manchmal komisch, manchmal schockierend. Am besten gefiel mir fast das Vorwort, in dem Sandra Cisneros erzählt wie sie zur Unabhängigkeit und zum Schreiben kam, wer ihre Patroninnen sind und was ihr der Schnickschnack in ihrem Arbeitszimmer bedeutet.
