This book, which is a history book about the "A Song of Ice and Fire" world by George R.R. Martin, is surprisingly exciting to read even though it doesn't contain a real story like in novels. However, it is definitely only for fans of the world with an interest in the background of the Targaryen family, the dragons and their invasion of Westeros. Personally, I'm a big fan of the Targaryen family and dragons, which is why I bought the book. It's very informative and you learn how to read the misleading family tree. Any questions I had before because of the confusing statements in Games of Thrones have now been explained. You get a good insight into important events and tragedies during the reign of the Targaryens in Westeros, you learn to love or hate some former kings. It's an up and down hill ride, but worth it if you're a big fan. Still, the chapters are very long, I think over 80-100 pages in some places. I read the book in my native language, but even then it was hard to understand certain events because the book is written like a retelling and often jumps ahead in history in certain chapters and then returns to the past. Nevertheless, a very ingenious book! It's perhaps important to note that the book only covers the events until the reign of King Ageon |||, I think any further backstory is covered in the second part of a book. (For example the reigns of the mad king)
