Distorted (Alabaster Penitentiary)

von Nyla K

Format:Softcover

This is Alabaster Penitentiary… Where they send you when the world thinks you’re dead. And trust me, you’ll wish you were. We’re the stain on society. The freaks, the creeps, your favorite Netflix documentaries come to life. They lock us up and throw away the key, because we deserve it. But not me. I’m just a lowly bank robber. I don’t belong here, surrounded by psychopaths and killers with no remorse… At least, I don’t think I do.Getting by unscathed is my top priority. Unfortunately for me and my fellow prisoners, those in charge are more dangerous than we are. You see, the guards run the show, and I seem to have caught the attention of the most twisted one. He has a name, but it might as well be Officer. We move around one another like a sun and a moon, revolving in an axis of confused lust and torment until the truth is distorted, and the thing I once feared becomes that which I crave; my vile addiction, somehow so exquisite. Reality warps in the dungeon, and I’m left wondering which prison is worse… the one holding my body, or my mind.**Distorted is the first book in the Alabaster Penitentiary series. It is a full M/M romance, with HEA. Each book in this series is technically a standalone, though they are interconnected, so it will be recommended to read in order, as references to this story will be made in future books. Distorted is intended for mature audiences and open-minded readers ONLY! It is recommended to go in blind and avoid spoilers.

Oh my gosh. I thought this would never end. A bit longer review. This review contains spoilers! First of all i wanna say that this book was just not for me but i bet some people enjoyed it. There‘s many things in this book i didn‘t like but also some i do. Really nothing against this author, this is my just second book from her and For The Fans is literally my favorite book ever. Soooo, this was something. This book had so much potential to being good, and the first half WAS something good. But it just rolled right off the cliff. I liked the setting in the prison and that dash was kinda crazy ( we didn‘t exactly know how crazy at the beginning ), i also loved the side characters like ren and luthor ( so excited for their story sometime ) or darcy and his story. So there where things i liked and although i didn‘t really „enjoy“ this at all. I was invested reading the first half an also enjoyed that part. BUT. Like i said, it took a turn down, after it was revealed that callum was just a hallucination or some shit? What the fuck? Don‘t know if it‘s just me but that „plot“ was not for me. Obviously i knew dash was not just a robber, i mean it was pretty obvious. And i didn‘t see that huge twist coming but it also didn‘t really give me like a wow moment. I was just disappointed. Now, after dash breaks out and meets kemper „again“, kellan just immediately falls in love with him. Weeeird. The first half just screamed stockholm syndrome. And i have to mention that i actually was so close to dnf‘ing so many times, because what kemper did in the hallucinations or wtv was not okay. It was literal r*pe and that‘s just fucked up. I did finish it because like i said, i liked the setting and enjoyed some aspects of the book. I was pretty confused about alot in the first half because i had many questions, such as why officer kemper acts all „he‘s mine“ or „i love him“ when bro literally doesn’t know dash. Or why nobody ever catched them in the fucking cell. Well, shame on me. IT WAS ALL FAKE. 👍🏻 Anywayyy, after all this was definitely not for me. BUT im gonna continue this series some day, because im really excited for the ren&lex book and for darcy‘s book. ( really not excited for Velle & Rook & Joy because i don‘t like velle and don‘t like MMF all that much ). AND OMD I NEVER THOUGHT I COULD GET SO SICK OF WORDS. LITERALLY IF I HEAR „Luscious“ OR „Inmate“ ONEEEE MORE TIME IM GONNA CRASH OUT!! 2 stars. 💜

What a Ride - What a Plot Twist! This book really leaves you to think. From the beginning I was really into the whole setup and did enjoy all the characters we got to meet. Not only Dash and Kemper, but also all the side characters. I really felt for Dash and was so invested in his story. Tbh I wanted to see him with Velle. But oh well. Then came the plot twist. And here start my Mixed feelings. I did like the power Switch between the characters after the Plot twist, but I have to say, I kind of felt betrayed. Spoiler Alert! Going back in the Book, there are Parts where you could see that it was Dash’s imagination, but then there are parts in the story that are just too big to write up to hallucinations. For example: Dash went showering with his cage and they started a fight, which led hin back to solitary. Now was there a Cage in the First Place? Was there really a fight? But also Ren was involved in it, so the whole thing seems to be too public to be only his hallucinations. Also why would there be POVs of a Person, who doesn’t exist? I guess all of this just adds to the Book and makes you think about it and maybe I will even reread to solve some questions myself. But I also read the author‘s Note at the End of the Book and still - to me - there were to many pieces left, that didn’t quite fit. Nyla K Said in that Note that the difference between Officer Kemper and Kellan Kemper was, that Officer Kemper as a character didn‘t evolve. I find that far from true. For example in the beginning it Said about Officer Kemper that he didn‘t do feelings, I believe, and he raped Dash. The he did evolve to a caring being with many complex emotions. What about that? I just felt like 70% of the book you got to meet and „love“ Officer/Callum Kemper and suddenly he is just gone and there is someone completely new and they just instantly click. I don‘t know. I was really sad. So thats why the Book only got 4 Stars. Still a Great Read and I will be definitly Reading the Next Part.
