Rezension von kenThe wit in this text is undeniable, but for some reason the themes are not sitting well with me. Or perhaps, the manner they are approached. While the question of morality, one's past, and one's private and public honour are of importance, it was a struggle for me to be emotionally invested in the foibles of a straight couple whose problems are so easily solved by communication. However, I do not fault this premise, since it was addressed by the character, Sir Robert Chiltern, when he says, <spoiler>"...Why can't women love [men], faults and all? Why do they place [them] on monstrous pedestals? [Men] have feet of clay, women as well as men: but when... men love women, [they] love them knowing their weaknesses, their follies, their imperfections, love them all the more, it may be, for that reason. It is not the perfect, but the imperfect, who have need of love."</spoiler> Though I must say, the themes of <i>An Ideal Husband</i> are as relevant as ever, in the modern dating scene. Especially men now too, hold women in some irrational pedestal.
