Rezension von ViviThis is one of the most tragic books I’ve ever read. There never was a moment I didn’t feel the fear, the pain, the hurt, or the loss. This is a really dark story about war, torture, sacrifice, and loss. I cannot fully recommend this book to everyone because it broke me several times, but it is still so beautifully written. Even though I knew the basic storyline from Manacled (yes, there are differences) the twists and turns broke me and i cried my eyes out. If I ever recover from this i will reread it!! „It was beautiful and it felt like betrayal. The world was supposed to be dead and cold, forever mirroring the misery of Helena‘s life. Instead it had moved on, tilting into a new season, and she could not. She was trapped forever in winter, in the season of death.“ „But I want to be remembered as someone who tried at least.“

I thought the storyline was very confusing up until the flashback chapters started, because that was the first time I had an understanding for how this world works and what exactly the plot line was. From this point on I couldn’t put the book away and was very invested in the storyline. I’m a real sucker for tragic love stories! The question I was asking myself the entire time, while reading was „Why does everyone keeps saying this is dark romance?” Because in my opinion it’s a book with dark themes but not dark romance. The love trope of this book is rather for me „forbidden love“ or „starcrossed lovers”. Sure in the beginning it seems like dark romance, but as soon as you’re reading the flashback chapters you see that it isn’t.
